This suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, was named after William MacGregor who was the Governor of Queensland from 1909 until 1914. Like its surrounding suburbs, Macgregor incorporates a very diverse multicultural community. It is in the Australian Federal electorate of Moreton and its current member is Graham Perrett. MacGregor State High School and Macgregor State School (a primary school) are the two main public schools in this suburb. The High School which opened in 1969, with nine teachers and 203 students, came into notice for a tornado that struck the school on 4 November, 1973. Thousands of dollars worth of damage was created, requiring the school to rebuild a major portion of it. It now houses approximately 1800 students. The Primary School, established in 1972, currently has around 2000 students and 50 staff members. With English being the most popular language here, the other commonly used languages include Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Greek.
