An inner suburb of Brisbane, Herston is situated 3 kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD. Though majorly a residential suburb, it also has some areas of light industry near the main roads. It is dominated by the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Queensland Institute of Medical Research and the former Royal Children’s Hospital also shares this campus. Before December 1968, the eastern side of the suburb was served by frequent tram services. The western side of the suburb was served by trams which ran along Kelvin Grove Road. During a particular phase between 1953 and November 1968, Brisbane City Council trolley buses served this suburb, connecting it with Fortitude Valley and ran through to Stanley Bridge in East Brisbane. Brisbane City Council diesel buses continue to serve the suburb. Throughout the southern part of the suburb runs the Inner-Northern Busway.
